Stomach Cancer may be of the Lymphoma type and usually arise from the lymphatic cell which are found in the wall of the stomach. The stomach is the organ which acts as a food reservoir and contributes to digestion. It receives food from the oesophagus into the region called the cardia. The middle section of the stomach is called the body of the stomach and the outlet is called the pylorus. The pyloric sphincter controls flow of food from the stomach into the duodenum.
Who gets Cancer of the Stomach?
Cancer of the stomach are rare tumours. The geographical incidence varies however as it accounts for a higher proportion (10%) of all stomach cancers in the developing world. This is because of the bacteria Helicobacteria pylori, a major cause of stomach lymphomas is more prominent in the developing world.Predisposing Factors
Progression
The lymphoma may grow locally into the lumen of the stomach causing obstruction, or sometimes causing perforation. Sometimes they spread along the mucosal surface to involve a wide area. Lymph node spread to mesenteric nodes, and subsequently other lymph node groups and systemic spread may occur similar to other lymphomas.Current Sponsors
